Have You Been Charged With A Traffic Violation In New Jersey?

We are all familiar with traffic violations and the penalties that come with them, such as fines and points against your license. However, did you know that certain traffic violations can result in arrests and other more serious consequences? In this article, we share with you some traffic violations that could end up costing you more than a fine.

Driving without Insurance

Every driver on the road is required to have auto insurance to protect themselves and others around them in the event of an accident. By driving without insurance, you are putting yourself in a disadvantageous financial position should any unexpected circumstances occur. Furthermore, you are compromising the financial position of others who may be involved in an incident with you.

If you are found driving without insurance, you could face fines, community service and driving suspension. On top of that, your vehicle will be impounded, and you will only be able to get it back with proof that you have adequate insurance coverage.

Driving without A License

Keep in mind that driving without a license encompasses drivers who have yet to pass the necessary tests to obtain their license. If you have simply forgotten your license, all you need to do is let the police officer know your license registration number and they can look it up on their system. However, you may still receive a summons and face a fine.

Reckless Driving

If you are found driving in a way that intentionally endangers your safety and that of others around you, you can be charged with reckless driving. This includes speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, and other behaviors that pose a risk. Reckless driving can come with a legal consequence of jail time as well as points against your license. Keep in mind that your license can be suspended if you accumulate too many points at any one time.  Points will also increase your insurance premiums.

Driving Under the Influence (DUI)

A DUI charge is perhaps one of the most serious traffic violations you can be charged with. If a traffic officer believes that you are under the influence of alcohol or any other substance, they can pull you over and administer field sobriety tests on you. Once they have established a reasonable suspicion, you will be required to undergo breath or blood testing. An immediate arrest can be made if your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is found to be over a certain threshold. A DUI offense is to be taken seriously as it can seriously harm others around you and leaves a permanent mark on your record.
